Fantasy Perspective: Week 1

As we head into the first week of the NFL season, remember not to get overly critical on a poor start by your so called franchise players. The 1,000 yards stats a receiver or running back gets occurs over the full 16-game schedule, so there will be at least four to five games from that player that won't provide stellar stats. Here are the non-stellar fantasy names out there that are worth starting for big production.

When it is all said and done

After the first few weeks of the season, Mike Bell will be just another running back that has disappeared in Mike Shanahan's running back log.

It's not often that an athlete can take over a game on the football field and sustain that quality of play for over 10 years. If it does happen, it's usually a player with great notoriety. When talking about Jimmy Smith, however, there isn't a person that would believe the story of his career, which came to an uneventful off-season conclusion when he recently announced his retirement.

Young second in line

Vince Young is the man in sports right now. He won the Rose Bowl and now has just declared to forgo his senior season to enter the NFL. Life is great when you're sitting on top of the sports world. Young will soon learn how quickly that will change.

Quarterback turnovers

Quarterbacks, what have they done this season? Well they've done more for other teams than their own.

Sore arms

The reason for the lack of running back production in the NFL is obvious. Quarterbacks are stealing the show. Will this continue?

Don't give up on Price

Peerless Price was let go by the Atlanta Falcons after being a big disappointment. His time ran out in Atlanta, but he is ready to start fresh elsewhere. Here's why you might want to hold on to him for your fantasy team.

Concerns

Mike Vick hasn't lived up to his salary or his hype. The world is now accustomed to his incredible scrambling skills, but will he ever become a quarterback? Sooner or later people will need to wake up and realize his rushing ability is keeping the attention away from his real problems. Throwing below 150 yards a game isn't going to get it done, not if you want to get past the NFC championship game.

Realistic wake up

Drew Bennett was recently ranked as the number one receiver in a national fantasy football publication. It's time for some open criticism. Hold on, because this is going to be good.

NFL: The truth

Byron Leftwich seemed to develop in the eyes of fans last season, when in actuality, his statistics were on the same level as his rookie season. Is the linkage and stats the truth, or is there more to look at between the lines?
