With the new year now upon us, it's time to take one last look back at all that has happened in the world of sports in the past year. So, without further ado, it's time for the 10th Anniversary of the Cappy's, the awards for the best, and not-so-best, in sports for 2007. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

Sports Awards 2006 -- The Ninth Annual Cappy's

It feels like just yesterday that 2006 began, so it is hard to believe it is almost gone and 2007 is about to begin. With the end of the year now upon us though, there's one more thing to do -- it's time to hand out this year's Cappy's, the awards for the best, and not-so-best, in sports for 2006. Wasted talent

It is so frustrating to watch an athlete, who has so much talent and athletic ability, let outside interests or general "weirdness" come between them and their sport. The result -- they never even come close to achieving the level of success they might otherwise attain and, in the end, just waste their God-given athletic talent. There have been a number of athletes that fit this category in the last few years. Who are they? Read on to find out.

The ‘Legend’ in the pink hat

Karch Kiraly has won more beach volleyball tournaments -- 147 -- than anyone in the history of the sport. This year he's struggled as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, but slowly he's been coming back to top form. Win or lose, Kiraly is still one of the top draws in the sport. Racing in her first Indianapolis 500, rookie driver Danica Patrick exceeded all expectations and finished in fourth place, the best finish for a women in the history of the race. She is definitely the "real deal" on the IRL IndyCar circuit.

Beach was jumping at AVP Santa Barbara Open

Hot beach volleyball action at AVP Tempe Open

It was a repeat of the AVP season opener in Ft. Lauderdale three weeks ago ? exciting beach volleyball, enthusiastic crowds and the same two winners, as Misty May and Kerri Walsh captured the women?s title, while Jake Gibb and Stein Metzger took the men?s title and firmly established themselves as the team to beat on the men?s side of the game.
