Spread over 220 acres at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex plays host to more than 170 events each year for professional and amateur athletes in some 30 sports. The state-of-the-art facility includes multiple venues and is home to more than 40 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Championships, Atlanta Braves Spring Training, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp, the Sports Experience interactive area, and the All Star Cafe sports-themed restaurant.

For the first time in Disney Sports' history, Walt Disney World Resort will a host a race weekend designed for women. The event will include a one-mile walk, 5K run/walk and 15K run.


The event takes place May 5-7 at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando.

Registration is open for Disney Sports Attractions’ newest event--Disney’s Minnie Marathon Weekend.

The first-ever Disney Minnie Marathon Weekend will take place May 5-7, 2006 at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando as an effort to promote women’s wellness and a lifestyle that includes physical activity, health, fitness and a positive self-image. The weekend will include three separate races of varying lengths and an expo featuring educational opportunities and products specifically for women.

The three races, a one-mile run and walk, 5K run and 15K run, are offered to allow women of all abilities to participate in the weekend. The one-mile and 5K will take place on Saturday, May 6 with the Women Run the World 15K occurring on Sunday, May 7.

With the debut of the event, a new medal designed in the shape of Minnie Mouse will be awarded to those who complete the 15K.

The weekend will benefit the American Heart Association, and while the weekend is designed for women, men are welcome to participate on behalf of the women in their lives.

Registration for Disney’s Minnie Marathon Weekend is currently open. Athletes can register online by visiting www.disneyworldsports.com and clicking on "Sports" and then "Endurance" to find the race or by calling (407) 938-3398 to have a registration form mailed.

Registration is $20 for the 1 mile, $25 for the 5K and $35 for the 15K if received by April 15. All prices increase $5 dollars after April 15.

The Endurance Series at Walt Disney World Resort gives recreational athletes of all ages and abilities the chance to walk, jog, run, skate, bike and swim their way "around the world." From running and skating marathons to road races and triathlons, participating athletes from across the country and around the world compete to stay in shape, to achieve personal-best times and often to raise donations for charitable causes.

Popular Endurance Series events include the Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon (January), the Walt Disney World Inline Marathon and Half Marathon (April), the Walt Disney World Triathlon (September) and Disney’s Race for the Taste 10K (October).
