In a unique twist on distance running, participants will combine the sport with international cuisine in the Race for the Taste 10K on Oct. 9 at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando. Formerly Disney's 10K Classic, the race will take place in conjunction with the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which runs Sept. 30-Nov. 13.
Athletes will enjoy a ceremonial toast to start the race. During the run, participants will be entertained by festive music and entertainment. Race for the Taste 10K will start at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex then move on to Disney-MGM Studios' new attraction, Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. Runners will continue along Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and finish in World Showcase at Epcot, the center of the Food and Wine Festival.
Disney's Race for the Taste 10K is part of a three-day weekend of events for The Endurance Series at Walt Disney World Resort that will also include the Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure 5K (Oct. 8), benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Foundation, Disney's Cross Country Classic (Oct. 7.) and Disney's "Go the Distance" Expo (Oct. 7-8). The expo will debut Miles of Magic, a special wine provided by The Endurance Series, and attendees 21 and older will be able to try the California Syrah during several tasting sessions on Friday and Saturday.
Athletes can register online for Disney's Race for the Taste 10K by visiting www.disneyworldsports.com and clicking on "Sports" and then "Endurance" to find the race or by calling (407) 938-3398 to have a registration form mailed. All runners must be at least 11 years old and must maintain a 15-minute mile pace. Registration is $30 if received by Sept. 30 and $35 afterwards. Kid's races are free and registration will take place race morning only. Currently registered USA Track & Field club teams can enter the Race for the Taste 10K as part of the USATF Club Co-ed 10K Team Challenge for a chance to win part of $14,000 in prize money.
The Endurance Series at Walt Disney World Resort gives recreational athletes of all ages and abilities the chance to walk, jog, run, skate, bike and swim their way "around the world." From running and skating marathons to road races and triathlons, participating athletes from across the country and around the world compete to stay in shape, to achieve personal-best times and often to raise donations for charitable causes.
