Anthony Goegan is currently an employee at Fletcher Tire and Auto, where he mainly changes oil and busts tires. His plan is to learn as much about the automotive industry as possible, so that he can some day own his own independent full-service shop. Outside of that, his main hobby is sports. A few years ago he was an internet sports writer for several sites, incluindg e-Sports. Here are some short shots on the sport's world, including the Yankees payroll, Yao Ming, Carlos Beltran and more.
So Randy Johnson is officially a New York Yankee. It will be interesting to see how quickly he wins his 300th game.
By adding Johnson, the Yankees payroll eclipsed the $200 million mark. Tell me that?s not trying to buy a championship. Problem is, this method won?t work. The World Series will once again be won by a team built from scratch, not a fantasy baseball team.
Yao Ming has to be the biggest waste of space in NBA history. He?s 7' 6" but offers no physical presence in the middle. He?s not even the best center on his team.
Carlos Beltran may have put on a show in the postseason, but is he really worth $17 million a year?
Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion is the most underrated player in the NBA.
If Pete Carroll and Matt Leinart opt to leave USC for the NFL, it would go down as two of the worst decisions in college football history. The Trojans are well on their way to a third straight national championship, which would place them amongst the best teams of all-time.
Gonzaga is at it again. In the month of December, they toppled Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State (both ranked in the top ten), and Washington, currently the 12th ranked team according to the Associated Press. Look out for them in March.
New England Patriots defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel is on schedule to interview with the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns this week. If he takes any of these jobs, I?m wondering how it will effect the Patriots title run with both their offensive and defensive coordinators minds focused partially on next season with their new teams.
Patriots corner back Ty Law will miss the entire postseason. That won?t fair well if they have to face Peyton Manning and his multiple receiving threats.
Norm Chow has to be mentioned amongst the great college offensive coordinators after what he?s done at USC the past two seasons.
The NHL has cancelled their January 14th meeting with the board of governors because they have nothing new to say. What a joke. We may not see the NHL next season.
He may still be a great player and a phenomenal athlete, but Kobe Bryant has seemingly fallen off the face of the earth. You rarely hear about the once media frenzy all-star.
What a phenomenal cast of coaches Marty Schottenheimer, the head coach of the AFC west champion San Diego Chargers, had in Kansas City in the early 1990s -- Herman Edwards (head coach of the New York Jets), Bill Cowher (head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers) and Tony Dungy (head coach of the Indianapolis Colts). Schottenheimer and his three one time assistants will coach their respective teams in this years playoffs.
After leading his team to the western conference finals last season, Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders is on the hot seat. Sure, they may be struggling this season, but give the man until the end of the season and then evaluate him. Saunders has coached the Wolves for entirely too long to be let go one quarter of the way through the season after he led his team to the conference finals eight months ago. Besides, the T-Wolves are still above .500 and would be in the playoffs if it ended today.
Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed won the AP?s Defensive Player of the Year award. Nice to see they handed that award to the right player. Reed may go down as one of the biggest play makers of all-time when all is said and done.
