Anthony Goegan is currently an employee at Fletcher Tire and Auto, where he mainly changes oil and busts tires. His plan is to learn as much about the automotive industry as possible, so that he can some day own his own independent full-service shop. Outside of that, his main hobby is sports. A few years ago he was an internet sports writer for several sites, incluindg e-Sports. But with a few additions to their horrid offense, the ?Skins could be right up there with the Philadelphia Eagles in contention for the division title.
The Redskins defense is dominant. They can blitz. They can stop the run. And they have a shut down secondary.
The nucleus is there for a team destined to compete in the NFC for years to come.
The problem resides in the passing game, which ranks 30th in the NFL. In total offense, the ?Skins are ranked 29th in the NFL.
Patrick Ramsey, Washington?s quarterback, has had a rocky start to his career thus far. It is argued, however, that if Joe Gibbs had gone with Ramsey from the start of the season, and not waited until five weeks before the season ended, the Redskins may have been a playoff team this year.
Ramsey has been impressive in five games as a starter.
Rushing the ball is Clinton Portis, who is one of the leagues premiere running backs. Portis came over in a trade last summer and rushed for over 1,300 yards. With the addition of a couple speedy receivers, the Redskins offense could open up for Portis to run the ball the way he did in Denver.
A boost in the offense during this off season and the Redskins will be in the playoffs next season. The defense is capable of the rest. Look out for Washington next season. They should be a team on the rise.
Some other NFL thoughts?
* How ridiculous was it to see Randy Moss walk off the field with time left on the clock in Minnesota?s loss to Washington in the regular season finale. What a team player Randy is. It?s players like Moss that prevent teams like the Vikings from taking that next step into contention.
* Neither Carolina nor Buffalo will be heading to the postseason, as both lost their final games of the season. That?s unfortunate. It would have been fun to watch two teams, which started the season playing terrible football, make a lot of noise in the playoffs.
* With five teams finishing 11-5 or better in the AFC, it will be interesting to see how the playoffs pan out. Pittsburgh and New England have to be the favorites to play in the AFC championship game, but don?t count out San Diego. Drew Brees has developed into a top notch quarterback in the NFL.
* Curtis Martin may go down as one of the most underrated players in NFL history. He is quietly sneaking up on Emmitt Smith?s all-time rushing yards mark and has consistently put up pro bowl numbers year after year.
* Minnesota caught a break this year. After playing really bad during the second half of the season for the second straight year, the Vikings will play in the postseason. But don?t worry. Their defense won?t allow them to get past the first round.
* You must be joking. The NFC west is sending two teams to the playoffs. After the rocky seasons that the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks had, they are now both in the postseason? and undeservingly so.
