With the new year just around the corner, here are a few short shots on the world of sports

Some thoughts on what is going on in the world of sports.

With the new year right around the corner, here are a few shots at the world of sports.

Whether the Minnesota Vikings make it into the postseason or not, Red McCombs is a fool for picking up Mike Tice?s option after two straight seasons of sliding down the stretch.

Even without T.O. the Philadelphia Eagles should have no problem winning the conference this year. The NFC is that weak.

If the Buffalo Bills sneak into the playoffs this year, look out. They may ruin some Super Bowl hopes for one of the three AFC powerhouses before all is said and done.

Congratulations to the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger and the phenomenal rookie season he has put together in Pittsburgh. Now lets see if he can continue the magic in January.

There are too many teams looking for a quarterback this off-season and too few coming out in the draft.

Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin will go down as one of the greatest wide receiver tandems in NFL history if the St. Louis Cardinals play their cards right.

Who would have thought that the Detroit Pistons, Tampa Bay Lighting and Boston Red Sox would have won their respective championships all in the same calendar year?

It looks like the New York Mets are rebuilding a lot quicker than most people thought. First, they signed Pedro. Now, they?re after Carlos Beltran.

If the New York Yankees do find a way to trade for Randy Johnson, it will set up -- potentially --- one of the greatest game 7s in baseball history: Curt Schilling vs. Randy Johnson.

Congrats to Peyton Manning on breaking the record for touchdown passes in a single season. He may break his own record about this time next season.

What an outfield the Yankees would have if they sign Beltran. Hideki Matsui, Gary Sheffield, and Beltran with Bernie Williams as the DH rotating into centerfield every few days.

It may seem like Billy Beane is cleaning house in Oakland after getting rid of Mark Mulder and Tim Hudson, but something tells me the A?s will be right back in the thick of things in under two seasons from now.

I?m still picking the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl this year. Pittsburgh is a bit overrated and Indianapolis doesn?t have much of a defense.

Shawn Marion is quickly developing into one of the NBA?s premiere small forwards.

As good as Tracy McGrady is, he sure has a tough winning ball games.

Mike Martz may be one of the NFL?s worst coaches. If he still has a job at the end of the season, given that the Rams don?t somehow squeeze into the playoffs, it will be a mistake.

The Miami Heats Dwayne Wade will be a great player in the NBA someday.

With Shaq and Wade running the show, the Heat should have no problem representing the east in the NBA finals this year.

I?d like to end by sending out my prayers to Reggie White?s family. It?s too bad he past away at such a young age.
