In 2008, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost the Stanley Cup finals in six games on their home ice to the Detroit Red Wings.
They watched the Red Wings skate around Mellon Arena, Stanley Cup in hand, passing it among teammates and owners of the team.
In 2009, the Red Wings were going for their 12th Stanley Cup.
The Penguins hadn't won it since 1992.
On June 12, 2009, the Penguins got the chance to return the favor at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. They beat the defending cup champions, 2-1.
Playoff MVP, Evgeni Malkin, known as "Geno" to teammates and Penguin fans, got to skate around the ice holding the 35 pound trophy in his hands, along with the Conn Symthe Trophy for MVP.
Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who played so poorly in game six that he had to be replaced in net, saved his best for the last game.
Fleury always seemed to leave his "A" game in Pittsburgh, but not on this night and on national television at that.
Hockey's "big red machine" didn't score a goal until the third period.
Now I guess one could say that the city on the three rivers can be called something other than, "the Steel Town."
How about "Titletown?"
