Some hockey purists thought this would never happen. But, it has. The NHL Awards Show won't be held in Toronto, Canada this June. For the next three years, it'll be held in the desert.

The NHL Awards Show is heading to Las Vegas!

At the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs each year, the NHL hands out their awards to the best in the business.

The event is usually held in Toronto, Canada. But, not this year, or the next two years to come.

On June 18, the best of the NHL will be joining such entertainers such as Donny and Marie Osmond, Wayne Newton and all those comedians too numerous to mention in the bright lights of "Sin City," better known as Las Vegas, Nevada.

The NHL Awards Show will be held at the Pearl Theater at the Palms Hotel and Casino, which is owned by George Maloof, who knows a thing or two about sports and Las Vegas. He is the owner of the NBA's Sacramento Kings.

Maloof is one of those rare breeds here in "Lost Wages." He was actually born here.

Hockey purists aren't happy, you can bet the house on that. They don't agree with Commissioner Garry Bettman, who said that, "Las Vegas brings out outstanding and shining performances."

Some are wondering why New York or Los Angeles couldn't do the same thing?

Well, maybe they could. But, if you want glitz and glamour, then Las Vegas is the place to be. Have you ever seen the Las Vegas Strip in the evening or seen pictures of a showgirl in full costume?

Yes, Las Vegas does have a hockey team – the Wranglers, which just happen to be the farm club of the Calgary Flames of the NHL.

However, I know what's really bothering those people – Las Vegas = gambling.

What you need to know though is that Las Vegans don't bet on hockey games, let alone who is going to win the MVP Trophy or Coach of the Year. They have way to many other things to do these days, like worry about their jobs.
