Rob Roselli loves writing about sports. He already has a blog and avidly writes for the school paper. Predicting the outcome of one NFL game is quite the task, let alone 16 NFL games. But, hey, it's never too early to start talking Philadelphia Eagles football.
So here they are, my tentative predictions for every game of Philadelphia’s 2008 season. I use the word tentative, because this article could be completely irrelevant in July if the Eagles pull off a blockbuster trade and acquire stud receiver Anquan Boldin. For now though, my modest prediction:
Week 1: The Eagles defense dominates a St. Louis Rams team that is still rebuilding, and Broderick Bunkley proves to be a force on the line. W 28-7
Week 2: Nothing better than a Monday Night September showdown in Dallas. Yet, a slow start kills the Eagles as Jason Witten goes off for 155 yards and two touchdowns. L 24-34
Week 3: In a seemingly losable game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, the defense makes enough plays to keep it close, as a late Reggie Brown TD gives the Eagles the lead. W 27-21
Week 4: The Eagles are able to contain Devin Hester and the Chicago Devin Hesters, as Asante Samuel gets his first interception for a TD in an Eagles rout. W 38-10
Week 5: A home game against the Washington Redskins in October proves to be disastrous as the offense never clicks. A brutal home loss… L 13-24
Week 6: Kevin Curtis finds every gap in the San Francisco 49ers secondary, Eagles win… W 28-13
Week 8: A surprisingly tough home win against a rebuilding Atlanta Falcons team… W 20-14
Week 9: Julius Jones in his new Seattle Seahawks uniform torches the Eagles defense, as LJ Smith fumbles twice. Bad road loss… L 14-35
Week 10: Reminiscent of last year's game at the Linc, the New York Giants storm back in the second half, as Plaxico Burress scores two second half touchdowns and the Eagles fall…L 24-29
Week 11: Chad Johnson is seen cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals sidelines after an Eagles touchdown. Donovan McNabb shows some speed in a TD scramble. W 31-20
Week 12: Trent Cole throws Audobon product Joe Flacco to the ground numerous times as DeSean Jackson gets his first points of the season on a 72 yard punt return for a touchdown and win over Baltimore. W 28-27
Week 13: Larry Fitzgerald shows the Eagles why he was worth a little more than what they offered, as the Eagles suffer a loss in a shootout against Arizona… L 42-45
Week 14: Tra Thomas reminds Osi Umenyiora that he's not Winston Justice, as the Eagles running game gains over 200 yards on the Giants. Lorenzo Booker gets in the end zone twice, and the Eagles snag a crucial road game… W 20-17
Week 15: The Birds head back home hoping to carry over the momentum from the Meadowlands. However, the Eagles offense comes out flat, and despite 17 fourth quarter points, the Eagles suffer a crushing loss to the Cleveland Browns… L 24-31
Week 16: At this point in the season, the Eagles find themselves in a race for the fifth and sixth wildcard spots. This week’s road game against Washington is essentially a must win. Kevin Curtis finally has his coming out party, as the Eagles storm back in the second half to steal one from the Redskins… W 33-28
Week 17: In a game that seems too fitting, the Eagles come home to play a game that determines the holder of the sixth playoff spot in the NFC. Without much help from the offense, the Eagles defense proves to be indomitable for Tony Romo, as the Eagles finally give the home crowd something to cheer about with a win over the Cowboys. W 28-10
Final Record: 10-6
