As most of you most probably already know, LSU men's basketball coach John Brady was recently fired after jumping off to a disappointing 8-13 start. Brady received the word Thursday night that he would be "let go." Now the main question buzzing around Baton Rouge is, who will be the next head coach.

The interim head coach will be Butch Pierre, a long time LSU assistant. He will begin his career as LSU basketball coach Saturday against Tennessee the No. 7 team in the country. Unfortunately, this game could possibly get out of hand, with Tennessee's high powered offense led by Chris Lofton.

Pierre will coach the Tigers for a minimum of 10 games depending on how he does in the SEC tournament. But, most LSU fans have already given up on an NCAA or NIT bid, many just waiting for the departure of Brady.

So, who might get the head coaching job? Let's look at three possible candidates.

Tim Floyd

Tim Floyd is currently the coach at USC and the former University of New Orleans coach, who has had some issues with LSU that could possibly spoil LSU's chances with him. A few years ago when Floyd was coach at UNO, rumors were going around that Brady would be fired and Floyd was his replacement. As you can guess, Brady wasn't fired and Floyd apparently had some hard feelings.

A few months later he took the USC head coaching position where he has done an incredible recruiting job. His most recent big recruit was his biggest of all, freshman sensation O.J. Mayo. I believe he would be very interested in the LSU job if offered. But I am also worried that he might not want to give LSU another chance at him and I don't think LSU would pass up a second chance at him.

Bobby Knight

Wow, it is almost impossible to find a place to start on this guy's resume. The great Bobby Knight has racked up over 900 wins in his career, spending six years at Army, 29 years at Indiana, and seven years at Texas Tech, where he just resigned as head coach and turned the job over to his son Pat Knight.

Many say he would come back if a big program job came open. I think he could bring success to LSU and more success equals more attendance, which LSU needs. This is the kind of coach LSU needs to get back on the map. Is it just a coincidence LSU fires Brady right after Knight quits from Texas Tech. Isn't it ironic?

Mike McConathy

Mike McConathy is currently the head coach at Northwestern State and could be high on LSU's list of candidates. He has recruiting experience in Louisiana, which is a key factor. He has had 14 players receive there diplomas in four years, while Brady has 13 in 11 years. Also, McConathy 's players are very disciplined and they are clutch free throw shooters at the end of games. If he can win at Northwestern, he can win in Baton Rouge.
