Keith Hayes got his love for writing in the 6th grade where he began writing sci-fi stories for classmates and friends, while continuing to write over the years as a personal hobby.
In 1991 after purchasing WebTV, he caught the Internet bug and began writing on various message boards and newsgroups under the pseudonym Mista Sinista. His posts became popular as he covered movie reviews, the New England Patriots, WCW and WWE (formerly WWF) wrestling. Just do a Google search for Mista Sinista or Sinista1 under groups, and you'll discover enough material to read for months.
As his debating talents developed online, he became vocal in his local newspaper, the Enterprise. He began submitting Letters to the Editor, and most of his pieces were printed on a regular basis. He also had similar success with his letters to the early years of Patriots Football Weekly. After generating some buzz and catching the eyes of readers, Keith was contacted to write for wrestling web site Wrestlenutz.com. He was then later contacted to write for a New England Patriots fan website PatriotsFootball.com, which is now known as PatsFans.com.
When covering the Pats, Keith kept his Mista Sinista attitude and reviewed the games with his "tell it like it is" style. The Patriots experience soon took off, and allowed him to meet various players, travel to a Pro Bowl in Hawaii, a Super Bowl in New Orleans, several away games in the Meadowlands, and some great games in Foxboro, where he has been a season ticket holder since 1990.
Today, he covers the New England Patriots for eSports and as a 12th Man correspondent for PatsFans.com. You can read his political and local debates on his hometown site Brockton Forums. But for a real treat, you can also see the twisted side on his moniker web site Sinista1.com, where he has some great spoofs like "Barbie and Ken's True Hollywood Story," and "Celebrity Survivor."
Most recently, Keith has become a co-host on two hit radio shows at WXBR 1460 AM in Brockton (formerly WBET). On Fridays, Keith can be heard during the "On the Mark PI Show," with his host Private Investigator Mark Chauppetta, who has his own reality television show in negotiations, and a role in the upcoming horror film Frightworld where he plays an FBI Agent hunting a serial killer who has killed his wife.
Keith is now following in his host’s footsteps after scoring a part in Walt Disney's upcoming movie "The Game Plan," starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In the movie, Keith plays a football player on QB Joe Kingman’s (Dwayne's character) Boston Rebels rival team the New York Dukes. Also joining Keith on the show is defense attorney Ken Diesenhof, and Brockton Police Officer Frank "Czman".
On Saturdays, Keith can be heard during "Krashing Into the Bigfield/The Lock Up" from noon to 4 p.m. talking sports with Enterprise writer Kevin Tocci, and aspiring actor Tom Mariano, cousin to "Boston Rob" of "Survivor/Amazing Race" fame. The show also features guests Matt Futrell, Peter Czymbor, Dennis Harris, and is produced by former Indie wrestler Mike Pavia. The South Shore Sports Show is growing, as the first two hours cover sports (professional and local), while the second two hours cover the best talk in professional and Indie wrestling.
After weeks of waiting, the time had come, and the undefeated New England Patriots squared off against the New York Giants in
The game opened with Jordan Sparks slaying the National Anthem. As much as I hate and loathe the "American Idol" manufacturing machine, I must say that last year's Idol winner did a heck of a job with her rendition, and I'm sure she is hoping this will translate into better sales of her recent release.
For the most part, if you like defensive showdowns, this was the Super Bowl you wanted to watch. But, before I get into the game, let's rehash the ads, which were middle of the road this year, and, for the first time, the cutesy ads were at the top of my list. So, here are my ranking by advertiser.
Honorable Mentions
FOX TV: The Prison Break promo with
Iron Man: Marvel's newest super hero release with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark could make everyone forget about last year's Fantastic Four 2, with the Silver Surfer debacle.
Wall E: Pixar's newest had the kids in stitches. Who needs to rebound after losing to "Happy Feet" last season.
Wanted: I saw this trailer on the Xbox 360 months ago, but it was nice to see that it is going to be a summer release.
Audi R8 "Godfather": Did anyone else have to wipe the drool from their mouths after watching this ad. I'm not a big fan of European muscle, but this car was SICK, as was the Godfather spoof.
Top Ten Super Bowl Ads
10. Career Builder "Have a Heart": The heart exploding out of the woman's chest, and the blood splatter on the keyboard was just to hardcore for a Super Bowl ad, even with the punch line of the heart holding up an "I Quit" sign.
9. T-Mobile "Call Me Anytime": Dwayne Wade and Charles Barkley hit another home run for the "My Faves" promotion. How did these two not get a sitcom, and the Cavemen did?
8.
7. Sobe Life Water "Thriller": This ad featured a leggy supermodel – Naomi Campbell – with digital lizards doing the dance from the now famous "Thriller" video.
6. E-Trade "Baby Stock": E-Trade's ad featured a baby trading stocks online, and talking about the benefits. One ad had the baby burp up milk onto the keyboard, while the second featured the same baby talking about the money he's made, and how he rented a clown for the day.
5. Bridgestone Tires: This company was the middle of the road, but killed it with the ad that featured a deer, Alice Cooper and Richard Simmons. If this entices your attention, make your way over to MySpace to see this and all the other ads featured tonight.
4. Planter's Cashews " Instinctively Good": This was the most tasteless ad of the night, featuring a less than attractive woman with a unibrow being fawned over by men because she had rubbed a Planter's cashew over certain erogenous zones of her body, and had her digging her rear at the end of the commercial.
3. Doritos "Mouse Trap": This ad featured a man trying to entice a mouse with a Dorito, the effect was a scary one, as a huge mouse comes crashing through the wall to beat the man into oblivion. I'm not going to lie, but this ad had me jumping out of my seat.
2. Budweiser: Budweiser had several ads for their products featuring a man who can blow fire with hilarious consequences when he his cat allergies acts up. Another had Bud giving its drinkers the ability to fly, a group of men hiding Bud Light in food containers, while their best ad featured a rejected Clydesdale going into training, complete with "Rocky" theme music, and the Dalmatian as Mickey the trainer.
1. Coke and Diet Pepsi: Tied for the night with the cutest and funniest ads of the night. The Diet Pepsi ad featured several celebs falling asleep until they drink the new Diet Pepsi Max, and begin bobbing their heads, which paid homage to the old SNL skit and "Night at the Roxbury" movie. The big laugh was actor Chris Kattan at the end getting up set thinking he's being mocked. Coke's ad took place on Thanksgiving day, and featured three large inflatables of Stewie from "Family Guy," Underdog, and Charlie Brown. You have to see this ad to see the cuteness factor and humor, and I think the ad is successful mainly because of the character Stewie.
As for the game itself…
The first quarter was a clock-killing performance by both teams, as the Giants burned off a little over nine minutes on their first possession, finally settling for three. The Pats returned the favor, burning of the remaining minutes of the first quarter, and then opening up the second quarter with a one-yard rushing strike by RB Lawrence Maroney for a TD.
7-3 Patriots
The second quarter continued with a battle of wits between coaches and stubborn defenses. The first bad no-call of the night came when Giants' WR Armani Toomer pulled down a sideline reception 38 yards on a third and seven situation after he clearly put his hand on the face of the defender and pushed off. At this point it seemed the refs were content with letting these guys play, and if it was going to continue this way, then rightfully so. Four plays later Eli Manning tries to force a pass to WR Steve Smith in a third down situation, Smith tips the pass, which was picked off by CB Ellis Hobbs, who at this point was holding his own.
The next three possessions burned about three minutes off the clock, and all led to punts. On the fourth possession of the night, the Giants O-line started to show weakness, as the Pats defense was getting pressure on Manning. This time he was sacked by Adalius Thomas, who also successfully stripped the ball, which is almost recovered downfield by WR Steve Smith. Too bad he was able to get it because RB Ahmad Bradshaw batted he ball up field, which immediately drew a flag.
Pats took over after the punt, stringing together four conversions, but they fell short after Brady had the ball knocked loose during a Osi Umenyiora sack wasting a previous 18 yard reception by WR Donte Stallworth.
With 10seconds left in the half, the Giants could have kneeled, but instead they got ballsy, and tried to put a Hail Mary into the end zone, which failed and sent the game into halftime.
At this time, the game was progressing as I had expected, and I was expecting the Pats to come out more dominant after making adjustments. But, it was going to be tough, because since the loss of OL Stephen Neal on the line, it seemed something was giving for the first time this year, as Tom Brady was seeing more pressure and earth than he wanted to see.
This year's halftime show featured Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and a stadium full of LED flashlights that were probably free with the Bridgestone seat packs. It made for a great visual during his performance.
The second half opened with the Pats converting twice, as the third conversion came on a challenge flag. Faced with fourth and two on the Giants 44 yard line, the Pats punted away. However, before the Giants can take the field, Bill Belichick tossed the challenge flag, contesting that the Giants had too many men on field for the punt. After review, it was shown that Chase Blackburn didn't make it to the sideline before the snap, costing the Giants five yards, and giving the Pats the ball back.
Eight plays later the Pats turned the ball over on downs. This was probably when the worst mistakes were made by the Pats the whole game. The first came on a short pass to Wes Welker, when faced with second and 11, a play Welker usually will convert, instead his blockers on the play (Randy Moss and Jabar Gaffney. totally missed their assignments and allowed Welker to get stuck with a two-yard loss on the reception. On the next play, RB Kevin Faulk converted on a 14-yard strike. Two plays later Brady is sacked, and faced with a fourth and 13, Belichick strayed from his coaching MO, and went for it with the lead at hand. The pass fell incomplete, but it was the Pats riskiest move of the night especially when both defenses were playing stubborn.
The Giants next possession had the Patriots defense getting to QB Eli Manning and his WR's by stuffing the run, and forcing this game into Manning's hands who had to settle for a punt.
The Patriots took the ball over, but during their possession, the Pats were their own worse enemy with two false starts by TE Benjamin Watson, which could have easily gone the other way as the defense did jump causing him to move. The Pats end up punting to close out the third quarter.
On the Giants next possession, they scored after only six plays, but was setup up by the great reception of TE Kevin Boss who was subbing for the injured Jeremy Shockey. The score was big, but not a killer.
10-7 Giants
Pats took over, and Giants coach Tom Coughlin's biggest blunder of the night was worrying about Welker coming across the middle, and making the decision to leave Moss with one on one coverage. Twelve plays later, he would score on a six-yard strike. Giants fans had to have been worried and upset at this point.
14-10 Patriots
The Giants took over with 2:42 on the clock, and a fired up Pats defense that had been getting to Eli more and more as the game moved on. The game changer came on third and five from their own 44. Manning was pressured, and had several Pats players grabbing his shirt, pants and whatever else. However, he pulled off the unthinkable, broke free and rolled left and threw a 32-yard strike to WR David Tyree, who made one heck of a catch while defender Rodney Harrison was laying him to waste, he still held on to the ball. It was a play that even Pats fans will admit was a back-breaking reception which led to a possible momentum swing.
The Giants rode that momentum wave by converting a third and 11 shortly after Manning took a sack by Adalius Thomas. That was followed by with a 13-yard strike to WR Plaxico Burress, who broke defender Ellis Hobbs ankle with a move that would have made Allen Iverson envious, and left him wide open in the end zone for the go ahead score with seconds left.
17-14 Giants
The Pats took over with 35 seconds left, and not a fan was in their seats because many fans have seen QB Tom Brady bring this team back like a phoenix, including those who watched week 17. The Pats were looking for a great return, but were denied by the son of former Patriot Steve DeOssie, Zack DeOssie, who's hit pinned the Pats on their own 26 taking away the hope of a TD and possible FG.
Brady threw an incomplete pass, and then took a sack. With 19 seconds left, Brady threw to Moss for another incompletion. Then on the final possession, Brady got it down to Moss who had it knocked away by Gibril Wilson. It was a pass that, had Moss gone high for the ball, he would have pulled it down for the reception possibly giving the Pats a chance to tie.
As a fan, it hurts to see the Pats lose, but they've accomplished a lot this season, and I wouldn't have wanted this team to have lost to any other team. The Giants won, they deserve it, and it goes back to week 17 where a so-so team turned the corner, and a QB matured before
For the Patriots, it was a full circle trip for this team and their fans, as we all now know how the St. Louis Rams fans and team felt back in 2001, when the Patriots shocked the world and beat them.
One good thing about the loss... My Christmas jacket is in style for one more year!
