With the Kentucky Derby only six weeks, let's take a look at who is up, who's on their way down, and who may be left out.

1. Circular Quay. His recent easy victory in the Grade II Louisiana Derby says it all. He always show up on race day. His second place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile was no fluke. He is all class.

2. Street Sense. Any questions about his readiness after his four month layoff have been quieted with Saturday's Tampa Bay Derby victory. However, can he win without riding the rail, and did his battle with Any Given Saturday wear him out?

3. Nobiz Like Showbiz. If he can shake his lack of attention, this still undisciplined colt is a force. Sure, he finished third in the Fountain of Youth (Grade II), but first place was less than a length away. He has always finished in the money. Coming to New York in April, he should look good in blinkers.

4. Scat Daddy. His Fountain of Youth victory was one of the best prep races thus far. Except for his fourth place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, he has never finished out of the money. He seems to always be overlooked, but he should run 1-1/4 miles fine. Another good stretch runner, although Circular Quay passed him in last year's Hopeful (GI), in Saratoga as if he was standing still.

5. Great Hunter. The first of Doug O'Neill's eligible trio, he too has undertaken a light schedule to the Derby, his Robert B. Lewis Stakes (GII), was run in good time, albeit the competition was somewhat weak. He still looks like he lugs in a bit, but all he was done is finish in the money every time in nine races.

6. Sam P. This quiet horse is subtly improving, finishing second to Great Hunter in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes. Overlooked by most, he finished fourth in the Holy Bull. He needs to improve, an it is anticipated he will.

7. Any Given Saturday. His thrilling head-bob loss to Street Sense was as dramatic as they get. His next start should be against Great Hunter Street Sense and  Ketchikan in the Blue Grass Stakes. Like Street Sense, if the Tampa Bay Derby did not burn him out, he is as capable as anyone else.

8. Stormello. The fact that he is ranked eighth speaks of the competition, not of his ability. Lost to Scat Daddy by inches in the Fountain of Youth after four months, an impressive effort. Distance may be his only question.

9. Notional. He has won the San Rafael and Risen Star Stakes. His blinkers have served him well. His next test will really evaluate his ability, the Florida Derby, where he will meet Scat Daddy and Adore the Gold.

10. Adore the Gold. He faded in the Fountain of Youth, but only in the final 16th. If he deals with the distance, which he should, he can compete with the big guns. Like Notional, the Florida Derby will test his meddle.

Honorable Mention: The following horses either need to win to acquire Graded Stakes money, or simply need to face better competition: Zanjero, Cobalt Blue, King of the Roxy, Curlin, Song of Navarone, Cowtown Cat, Ketchikan, Hard Spun, Liquidity and Bwana Bull.

Injured and off the Trail: Ravel, Buffalo Man and Tiz Wonderful.
